SEATTLE LOVIN’

I’m leaving soon. I love Seattle quite a bit. I decided to go on a bike ride to see some favorite spots and vistas. It was a good ride. Check it out!

Epic view!

Lake Wa.

Capitol Hill is both a great and a horrible neighborhood. It’s on a hill, so everywhere you are heading is downhill to start, but always uphill when you head back home. It’s great, though, because you are treated to vistas anywhere and everywhere you look.

My RB-1 has been a great Seattle bike. Smooth, fast, durable. Also rather good looking.

Riding through Interlaken Park. Will certainly miss this place.

Interlaken park is one of those places that you stumble upon and can’t help but be like, “woah . . . where am I?”. Being able to get away from the city, while in the city, is a wonderful thing.

This pic doesn't do justice to how steep this street is

Seattle’s got some great hidden routes if you know where to find ‘em. Over the years I’ve enjoyed hunting down all the steepest, cobble-iest, and gravel-iest ones there are. When you’re locked into a city, getting some dirt under your tires can be a life-saver.

Dirt under tires.

After Interlaken it was off to the Arboretum. The Arboretum is like Lithia Park. That’s really the only way I know how to even get close to actually describing it. It’s that cool.

My ride ended at Gasworks Park. Classic Seattle . . .

It’s crazy how things sneak up on ya. I’ve been trying to cram as much into my last couple weeks here as possible, but as the countdown really starts to get towards moving day, there are more and more places and things I realize I want to see and do. Ho-hum. Looks like I’ll have to come back and visit.

A REMINDER

Yesterday was a good day.

I slept in and had some coffee.

Then I had more coffee and a sandwich while sitting in the sun and listening to a woman next to me read aloud from Tina Fey’s autobiography.

She was reading to a woman in a wheelchair hooked up to a feeding tube.

The both laughed out loud whenever the book got “raunchy”.

I laughed too, silently.

I was reading 100 Years of Solitude .

The barista asked me if I like the book and I smiled and said yes.

She said that she enjoyed Gabriel Garcia Marquez and wound up looking into more “Latin-American authors”.

Sounds fun.

Another barista gave me a book about wilderness awareness and survival.

It was the start to a good day.

CONTADOR. DOPING. CYCLING. OLD NEWS. *YAWN*

Well folks, the rumor on the “intranets” today is that Alberto Contador, 2007, 2009 and 2010 winner of the Tour de France, might possibly be given a one year suspension. This could happen, supposedly this Thursday. Many cycling fan-boys around the “intranets” will undoubtedly either jump for joy or cry out that one year is not nearly enough of a ban for such a lying cheat. In many cases it will probably be both. I, however, will weep softly to myself as I head out the door for a bicycle ride.
