Keeping your energy up while you cycle

There is nothing better than just jumping on your bike and exploring the great outdoors, whether it’s a beautiful forest or a stretching coastline. Compared to a road trip, where you could be stuck in a car for hours, cycling allows you to really experience a place using all your senses, rather than just seeing it all pass by through a car window.

However, some people prefer to explore a new place in their car because they can bring plenty of their home comforts along with them, such as their laptop so they can play Party Poker or update their Facebook status if they happen to come across a WIFI hotspot at a roadside café. They can also bring a big box full of food, as well as being able to listen to music in the car. However, if you are an active person who prefers to walk and cycle around, then you will already know that it is important to keep your energy levels up. This blog post will show you a few examples of some supplies which are high in energy, as well as being compact, making them perfect for slipping into your travel bag.

Cereal Bars or energy bars

Small cereal or energy bars are the perfect way to perk up your energy levels. They are normally carbohydrate based – which provides long lasting energy – as well as having a yoghurt or sugary topping, which will give you an instant boost of energy.

Dried Fruit

A small bag of dried fruit is a much more compact way of getting your five-a-day into your bag. They contain just as much energy and vitamins as fresh fruit, the only difference being that they are much smaller, making them ideal to slip into your bag.

Other high energy, healthy foods you could pack include:

Nuts – These are a great source of protein which also helps provide energy.
Figs – They keep hunger away for longer, provide energy and satisfy sweet cravings.
Trail Mix – It is a good balance of fruit and carbohydrates which will give you long lasting energy.
